Fall is tricky in the south. Technically, the start of Fall comes with the Fall Equinox, which falls between September 21st and 24th. This year, Fall will start on Saturday, September 23. Keep in mind that I live in North Georgia, so weather wise, I will not likely see cooler temperatures until at least the second week of October. Even then, temperatures feel like summer from about noon to four every day. All of that brings me to my point, it can be very hard to dress for Fall in the South! For that reason, I may not share a lot of Fall fashion until late September.
Today I wanted to show you some summer pieces I have added to my wardrobe that should easily carry over into Fall. All these are reasonably priced and have become favorites of mine! I don’t publish the prices here because Amazon is always changing, but trust me that I am a frugal shopper, so you can even add it to your saved items and watch for the price to come down if you choose.
I always find that it is really hard to know what I need for the upcoming season because I store a lot of my out of season clothes in a closet in another room. I try to make myself wait until I can flip my closet for the new season, but…😌
In the meantime, these summer looks are too good to put away, so I will make the most of them for as long as I can!
Look #1:
Allimy Womens Summer Shirts Striped Ruffle Tank Top I love this top for the fun, bright colors that really say “summer”, but this would also look awesome with dark rinse jeans and a blazer. In the fall, I prefer a sleeveless top under a blazer or cardigan because you don’t get too hot, and if you do, just remove the top layer and let the blouse be seen! This is a piece that I will probably keep in my closet year round, as I would feel comfortable wearing these colors now through Thanksgiving, and then when Spring rolls around and I am craving a pop of color, I can pull this top out again. I am wearing a medium because I wanted a tailored fit. I am a 34D so, this is *almost* too snug across the bust. If you are concerned about the bust fit, definitely size up.
Lola mae Quilted Crossbody Bag, This is easily the bag I have used most of the summer. Day to day, I carry a much bigger purse to fit all of my “stuff” in. I am talking a big bag that really isn’t conducive to wearing as a crossbody. When I am running errands, however, especially grocery store, or checking out a thrift or antique store, I want my hands to be free, so I just grab my phone case, car keys, lipstick and compact and go. This camera bag is the perfect crossbody – I also have it in black. The best thing? The price!
Shorts are from Old Navy, sandals are old from Target, earrings are old from Noonday.
Look #2:
LILLUSORY Women's Casual Short Sleeve Wrap Bodycon Ruched Tie Waist Summer Dress I love wearing dresses in the summer, sometimes I find them to be more comfortable than pants or shorts. This t-shirt dress is awesome! Did you know that Navy is flattering for all skin tones? It provides a warmth that other dark colors don’t. Most women I know appreciate a little help with disguising their midsection, and the tie waist on this dress does the trick. The folds on the sleeve are tacked, so you won’t be constantly refolding them. I feel like this is elevated athleisure at its best. You can wear this with trainers, a sandal, flats, and even a good wedge sandal. In the fall, I will wear this with a jean jacket, cardigan or bomber jacket. I am wearing a medium and the fit is perfect. You can adjust how tight you tie the waist, which in turn adjusts how tight this dress fits across the back.
Sandals are from several years ago and jewelry is from Tiffany & Co.
This shirt is SO fun! I absolutely love the tailoring of this blouse with the lantern sleeves, the smocked cuffs, the oversized collar, but then when you add in the bright color and fun pattern, it gets even better. Also, who knew I could wear orange?! I credit my gray/blonde hair. I could never have worn this color before I let my gray grow out! This is a satin material, so you can wear this now when you are going to be inside with air conditioning, brrr! And it will transition well into fall. Because of the volume of the torso and sleeve, I didn’t want this to be oversized, so I went with a medium, my usual in tops. I am a 34D for reference.
Jeans are from Old Navy, sandals are a Tory Burch dupe from Sam Edelman.
I purchased this t-shirt a full year ago, but I have reached for it again and again this summer. The neckline is so flattering while still modest, and the little flutter sleeves make it so feminine. I would take this shirt in every color! Another elevated staple that just adds a little something extra where a basic t-shirt is missing something. I am wearing a large.
I spent a couple of months this summer debating over purchasing a pair of Steve Madden Knox slide sandals. These are the cutest summer shoes that are available in several colorways, with exotic vacation destinations printed across the top. There is Paris, Tulum, Venice, St. Barts, etc. The price has come down now, but when I was really considering them, the price was hovering at around $50 a pair. For such a simple shoe design, I really didn’t want to spend that much. I was so happy when I found a dupe on Amazon for less than the sale price, and in colors that I really preferred. These are simple and comfortable enough for a few hours of walking on flat surfaces. I have been really pleased with this purchase! I find them to be true to size, so I am wearing my usual sandal size of 7.5.
INSIGHTER Womens Black Belt Waist Skinny Dress Belt This belt is a keeper. I really like the design, which feeds the extra length behind the belt so that you don’t have any bulk showing outside the belt. Perfect width, not too skinny, and the gold hardware is just enough to look high end. I chose a medium based on my waist circumference of 28-30 inches.
Shorts are Old Navy. Earrings are from Target, necklace is my own.
I have shared this shirt before on Instagram because it is the perfect classic button down at a great price. I love the light blue stripe in summer. I styled this with the “JCrew cuff fold” technique that makes the look work for summer. I am wearing a large because I knew I would wear this open and layered, but I may purchase a medium in another color to wear with slacks this Fall. I find that a more tailored fit is best when fully tucking in, to decrease bulk around your waist and bottom. This would actually work with jean shorts too, as well as with skinny jeans and sandals. I was going for a “beach casual” look here that would be great for now through Fall. I am wearing the shirt with this tank top from Amazon, which I have worn a lot this summer.
