Burning wood

We recently installed some shelving in our game room to display some autographed photos, a few of our favorite album covers and other memorabilia. We wanted a unique look for the wood, so we burned it with a propane torch instead of painting or staining it. We love how it turned out! Here's a short video of the process - very satisfying!

Burning wood with a propane torch to bring out the wood grain.

My husband, Corkey first cut the wood planks to the size that we wanted for the shelving. We were using decorative corbels for the wood planks to sit on, so the corbels were already mounted on the wall, and the plank size was chosen based on the depth of the corbels and the length we wanted for the shelving.

Next, Corkey sanded any rough areas as well as sanded off some black ink that had been stamped onto the wood. Once the planks were prepared, I did the wood burning, which as you can see is very easy.

Once I finished burning the wood planks, we let them sit for a couple of hours to cool, and to make sure that no sap was going to surface. Next, we put them in place in our game room.

We have two old whiskey barrels in the room that we use as bar tables, so the aged look we gave the shelving is perfect! This was a fun project to do together, it came together quickly, and we love the way it turned out!

The wood burned shelving in our game room turned out great!

Now our game room is a favorite space in our home. Where in your home have you done a little D-I-Y project that you love? Comment below or email me at hello@kinshipandvine.com.
